Walter
Andersen Nursery's Point Loma store is the headquarters of
Walter Andersen Nurseries. Walter Jr. and many other
family members still call this store home. Opened in 1969
after moving from our location on Rosecrans, the Point Loma
store is full of history and many wonderful products and
people! I still remember moving into the store. I was 6 years
old when the move was completed. Heck, I remember going through
the empty building with my father and grandfather before
we bought it!
The
building itself is rich in history. It was built in 1942
as the cafeteria for the Consolidated Vultee Aircraft Plant
(Convair) which was located across the street (now the
Navy's High Tech SPAWAR facility). After the war, the property
changed hands several times. The building was the first
office and studio of the fledgling KOGO Television, now
KGTV channel 10. My family bought the building from a company
that sold a bunch of weird stuff (at least I thought it
was weird when I was 5 and 6). That company was Pier One
Imports and the building was home to their first store.
For
the past 30 years the building has seen Walter Andersen
Nursery grow many fold. Still keeping to the high standards
of customer service, quality, and selection that Walter
Andersen Sr. started with in 1928. Walter Andersen Nursery
has the greatest selection of plant material in San Diego.
Our special order service can find most plants if we don't
have it in stock. Fertilizers, books, chemicals, statuary
and gifts are just a few of the items that round out our
inventory at the Point Loma store.
If
you like to garden, you'll love Walter Andersen Nursery.
