Crabgrass
Preventer
by Green Light
A little extra work in winter will save a lot of weeding
in the spring and summer. You can stop crabgrass before it
starts even after germination in early stages of growth.
It can be applied up to four weeks later than other crabgrass
preventers. For use on both cool and warm season turf grasses.
Use during the cool months of January and February (unless
unseasonably warm). Once the product is activated with rainfall
or irrigation, a barrier is formed in the weed seed germination
zone that keeps working for up to four months. Controls over
75 grassy and broadleaf weeds including sandbur, dallisgrass,
black medic, spurge, purslane, ryegrass and many others.
10 lb. bag treats 5600 sq. ft. If you miss the window for
application of the pre emergent weed control, don't worry.
You can take care of weeds after they germinate by using
Bayer All in One Weed Control to kill both Crabgrass and
other lawn weeds. If just crab grass is your problem use
Weed B Gon for Crabgrass from Ortho. Take care when applying
the Bayer All in One Weed Control around other ornamentals
because it can damage them.

Citrus
Leaf Miner
A
new insect has invaded San Diego County called Citrus Leaf
Miner. This small yellow insect creates the typical Leaf
Miner trail on the foliage of various citrus trees. While
it is not deadly to the trees it can damage foliage and
make the trees look unsightly. You can help the situation
by removing the damaged foliage as it appears. While nothing
can be used to eliminate an infestation the Farm Advisor
has recommended using Spinosad weekly to help prevent infestation.

Rodent
Control
If
rodents are getting the better of you, here’s a
product that will turn the tables. Our employees are
having much success using the Rat Zapper 2000, available
in both stores.
It
uses 4 AA alkaline batteries and is set by placing a small
amount of dry pet food (or similar dry attractant) at the
rear of the trap. Turning on the unit, the red light will
first blink then stay on. This tells you that the trap
is set and ready for action.
Place
the trap along walls where you have rodent activity. Once
the rodent enters the Rat Zapper, the trap senses the presence
of the animal and gives it a lethal electric jolt.
|
|
Your
trap's red light will now blink, an alert that lets you know
you have a dead rodent in the trap.
Empty
the trap by turning it upside down allowing the dead rat
or mouse to slide out.
The
Rat Zapper is safer around children and pets than large snap
traps and rat poisons. Use indoors wherever you have rat
or mouse problems. |
Bayer All-in-One
Flower Care for Roses.
It
is a combination fungicide insecticide and fertilizer.
It is applied as a soil drench every six weeks and one
bottle will treat up to16 roses or 200 sq. ft. of flowerbed.
An
alternative ‘must have’ for roses, if you choose
not to use the above, is Bayer Disease Control
for Roses. It's a fungicide that has the same
active ingredient as the all-in-one product mentioned above.
This one, however, is applied as a spray and controls all
major rose diseases.
