14th Annual Rose Show Schedule Available

The 14th Annual Rose Show will be held May 25-26 at our Poway store. We think this year (so far) is the best we’ve seen the roses look. There’s plenty of time to plant some new ones or coax your old ones to produce show stopping blooms. The rose show prep class will be held May 18; 9:30 a.m. at the Poway store.

14th Annual Rose Slated

The fourteenth annual Walter Andersen Nursery Rose Show is scheduled for May 25-26 at Walter Andersen Nursery’s Poway store, 12755 Danielson Ct. This popular event continues to grow with last year seeing more than 100 entries.

A rose show prep class will be held May 18 to help participants learn how to prepare roses for the show. The rose preparation class begins at 9:30 a.m., at the Poway location.

Entries will be taken May 25 from 8-10:30 a.m. with judging taking place from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Show hours are May 25 from 1- 5 p.m. and May 26 from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. You are encouraged to pick up your entries between 4-5 p.m. as they, along with tags, will be unavailable after close of business on May 26.

Oops, Dig Irrigation Date Correction

The Irrigation classes that will be held in Poway were mistakenly noted in the March newsletter as occurring on May 5; the correct date is Saturday, May 4. The classes will be held at 9:30 and at 1 p.m. Attendees must RSVP by calling 858-513-4900; each class is limited to 50 attendees; $30 worth of merchandise is free to every attendee. Please note that these classes fill up quickly.

Still Time to Register for Fairy House Sculpting Classes

Suja Pritchard, ceramic artist, will present two fairy house classes at our Poway store that allow you to sculpt your own terracotta house.
Choose from, or attend both of these dates to make different houses. On Feb. 16 from 9:30am to 11am, attendees can make the Rose Flower House. On March 9 from 9:30am to 11am, attendees will make the Wildflower Leaf House (pictured). After each class, the sculpted houses will be left at the nursery until they dry. Pritchard will then kiln fire them and deliver them to Walter Andersen Nursery in approximately two weeks. Participants may return to the nursery on April 6 for a (complimentary) painting class. The painting class will start at 9:30am.
Each house sculpting class costs $50 per participant which includes all materials (fairies not included), instruction, kiln firing and painting on April 6th. Classes are for adults and children aged 13 or older. Children aged 10-12 may take the class with an adult assistant at no charge, and will make one house together.
Terracotta clay does stain so wearing an apron or old t-shirt is recommended. The house sculpting classes are limited to 15 people; sign up by calling the nursery at 858-513-4900. You must RSVP and prepay for these classes.

Fairy House Sculpting Classes Coming Soon

Suja Pritchard, ceramic artist, will present two fairy house classes that allow you to sculpt your own terra cotta house. Classes will be held at the Poway store.
