Michael
Water’s design portfolio includes work on large commercial projects,
estates, model homes and residences. Michael has always been captivated by the
beauty of nature. He believes in approaching each new project as a stimulating
challenge. Ask him what the most challenging project he’s been a part
of and he will mention the Eastlake Design District. One look at its elaborate
entrances
and courtyards and you will see why.
The landscape architect he worked for kept
him very busy. Great experiences like this did broaden his
knowledge. Eventually though he was led back to his love
for residential landscape design.
Michael
is inspired by and comfortable with a variety of landscape
themes. The client’s needs, architecture and community feeling best indicate which
theme will work best for a particular site. The design style he most reveres
is “Natural Rustic”. Inspired by such landscaping pioneers as Gertrude
Jekyll and Bob Perry he enjoys using natural drifts and flowing lines. A well
planned design will work with the client’s needs and nature. The use
of Mediterranean and native plants together create an amazing array of contrast,
texture, color, and fragrance while typically reducing overall water needs.
Choosing
each plant with the utmost care, Michael makes sure it is right for the situation.
Considerations such as eventual growth, sun exposure, root systems, erosion
control, and water needs are carefully considered. This ensures the overall
eventual look,
health and feeling of your garden. The most important thing is that the client
is happy with the result. A landscape is an outdoor paradise.
Michael
has been a landscape designer for five years. The college
he credits for its wonderful resources
is Southwestern, particularly the Landscape Nursery
Technologies program. He received five scholarships while attending from organizations
like the San Diego Horticultural Society and the La Jolla garden club. Extensive
plant identification knowledge is very important to a landscape designer and
Michael considers himself a “plant nerd”.
