Walter Andersen Nursery

Landscape Design Department

Style, scale, shape, proportion, definition, texture, and presence are terms you might not be thinking about when you consider designing your landscape. Many clients are more concerned with color and what to plant where so it won’t die. Fortunately, trained professionals who have studied horticulture, landscape architecture and design see things using those principles.

Whether you are trying to organize an eclectic garden, freshen an old look, or starting with a blank slate, a landscape designer can help you avoid costly mistakes. Such a professional can create an organized landscape design and planting plan that shows what to plant where, along with its size and quantity. Your landscape becomes functional, visually pleasing and is tailored to your needs.

At Walter Andersen Nursery, no job is too big or too small. From space challenged courtyards to sprawling multi-acre projects the common goal is to make your outdoor space functional and attractive. We believe we offer a niche service by allowing our designers to provide advice that meets your needs whether it is to create a conceptual sketch and planting plan on site or take the necessary time to thoughtfully plan your landscape and create a planting plan. The complete design process provides a plan that allows your plants to live in harmony with each other and conforms to the amount of care you are willing to give them. You’ll have a design that can be executed that achieves your goals.

Initial Consultation -

Our process starts with your initial consultation. Set by appointment, you’ll receive an informative outline of how the service works and a client questionnaire to complete prior to meeting with your designer.

Click here to see our sample questionnaire.

You’ll also be encouraged to share photos of plants or designs that you like with your designer. Walter Andersen Nursery takes the unknown out of the project by telling you the design cost up front and you are urged to discuss your landscape budget with your designer.

Design Proposal -

After the consultation, you’ll receive a written estimate for the cost of designing your landscape. This fee includes the drawing time involved in creating your plan, researching its plant palette, reviewing any imposed requirements set forth by HOAs or CC&Rs, measuring your site, meeting your designer for a plan and plant presentation, and providing you with two copies of your plans.

If you like the proposal presented by your designer, you’ll pay a deposit, sign a contract and within 4-6 weeks, your plan will be completed. Click here to view a sample letter you receive that would include your estimate.

Referrals -

Walter Andersen Nursery’s landscape design services are limited to providing a design plan only. This affords you the freedom to seek contractors that you prefer to use. Finding reputable and trustworthy contractors can be intimidating. Walter Andersen Nursery landscape designers work with a well guarded list of referrals that they will provide clients with upon request. Referrals can be made to installers who will plant your landscape, or contractors who can install your irrigation or build hardscape.

Plants -

Your final plan will include a quote for the cost of plants should you want to purchase them from Walter Andersen Nursery. Choosing to do so provides you with peace of mind. Our purchasing department will normally require up to two weeks to acquire the plants selected for your design and will coordinate directly with your contractor or installer so that delivery occurs prior to your worker’s starting time. Walter Andersen Nursery plants are superior to those you may find elsewhere. They are bigger, grown under better conditions and best of all they are guaranteed for 90 days.
